DAYS linoprints

Willemijn Theisens

Art Collective for Peace

DAYS is a series of linocut prints with an edition of 470. This number represents the days from October 7, 2023, until the ceasefire earlier this year. It is symbolic, as the immense suffering and destruction that existed before still persist. Depicted are children's hands forming a peace sign – a simple, universal gesture that speaks without explanation. The paper sometimes has holes, missing ink, traces of what is no longer there. The hands hang as both a presence and an absence. They are countless, yet each one is unique.

The works have been donated to Art Collective For Peace, and the proceeds go to the Hope Foundation, a foundation dedicated to the development of children in conflict areas, with a focus on children with trauma and disabilities. Hope uses art and play to achieve this.

The work of Willemijn Theisens (1982) is a blend of activism and contemplation. At times, it is harsh and painful; at others, quiet and fragile. By working with materials such as menstrual blood, pearls, cow’s milk, bones, silver, and embroidery, the work speaks directly from the materiality of reality. It revolves around femininity, vulnerability, beauty, and sorrow, while also addressing the continuous powerlessness in the face of human and animal suffering.

The works are for sale for €45. The full proceeds go to charity.
